Two goals from Jose Angulo carried Independiente del Valle to a 2-1 win over Pumas in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

Angulo opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, firing home after chesting down Junior Sornoza's lofted pass.

He added a second on the other side of halftime with a headr in the 55th minute.

But Pumas grabbed a lifeline with a crucial away goal in the 73rd minute through Fidel Martinez.

After Alejandro Castro hit the post with a shot from a tight angle, the rebound fell to substitute Martinez, who sent a rocket into the top of the net.
